Red alert issued: State braces for two cyclones, seven days of rain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of widespread rain with thunder and lightning in the state for the next seven days. A red alert has been issued in Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts due to the possibility of heavy rainfall.

A Cyclonic Cyclone is prevailing in the Southeast Arabian Sea off the coast of Kerala. Another cyclone is located over Andhra Pradesh coast. Along with this, strong westerly winds are also prevailing on the Kerala coast. As a result of this, Kerala will receive widespread rain for the next seven days.

The Central Meteorological Department informs that in the next three hours there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour.

Heavy rain is continuing in Thrissur where red alert has been declared. Two deaths were also reported in the district due to lightning. Ganesan (50) and Nimisha (42) died.

Landslides and waterlogging are being reported from various parts of Thrissur district. Between Thrissur Ollur and Pudukkad, train traffic was disrupted due to a landslide on the track. As the water entered the Ashwani hospital, the patients suffered. There was waterlogging in Thrissur Sakthan Road, Iringalakuda, Puthamkulam Junction and Kunnamkulam. Shankaraiah Road, Mundupalam and Swaraj Round were also flooded.
