THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a decision that would give a slight relief to many, Kerala State Electricity Board confirmed that the consumers will not have to pay fuel surcharge in February. Bi-monthly billing consumers will be charged only 4 paise per unit as a fuel surcharge. In January, it was 8 paise and 7 paise, respectively. Due to the reduction in fuel surcharge, there will be a reduction in the electricity bill in the month of February.
In accordance with the regulations of the Union Ministry of Power, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission has amended the section 87 of Tariff Regulation and issued the KSERC Terms and Conditions of Tariff Amendment Regulations on May 29, 2023, with effect from April 2023, allowing distribution licensees to pass on to consumers the variations in electricity prices due to fluctuations in fuel prices as fuel surcharge every month. Accordingly, the fuel surcharge for February has been calculated by taking note of the increase in the cost of electricity purchase in the month of December.
