KOZHIKODE: A suspected thief fell into a well while attempting a theft at a house in Koyilandy. The man, identified as Agustin Birla from Assam, was found inside the well at a house in Nandi Bazaar. He remained trapped in the well for several hours before being rescued by the Fire and Rescue team.

The incident came to light in the morning when the woman of the house noticed that the grill covering the well had been moved. Suspecting something unusual, she looked inside and saw a man lying in the well. The family raised an alarm, and locals gathered at the spot. The police and the fire force were informed immediately.

The fire force rescued the man using a safety net. It is believed that he slipped and fell into the well while trying to climb to the upper floor of the house through the bathroom area. Police said the man is suspected of having mental health issues.

After being taken out, Agustin was sent for medical examination, and the police are questioning him. Koyilandy Police said that no other theft cases have been registered against him so far. However, an investigation is ongoing to find out why he came to the house early in the morning.

Years ago, around 12 sovereigns of gold had been stolen from the same house. Following this incident, the family and locals remain cautious. Police are also investigating whether Agustin intentionally entered the well or fell accidentally.
