Rs 1000 pension for Cancer patients suspended since eight months

KANNUR: Rs 1000 pension given to Cancer patients has been suspended till eight months. About one and a half lakh people are undergoing treatment for cancer in the state. 60,000 people among them are getting pension. The patients have no received pension since January. Although the amount is very less, the pension is a big relief to many patients.

They have demanded several times to increase the amount of pension given to cancer patients. Despite the increase in all other welfare pensions, the pension amount for cancer patients has remained at Rs 1,000 for eight years.

Pension can be applied online or directly or through Akshaya centres. Documents such as Aadhaar Card, Ration Card, Medical Certificate available within six months, Income Certificate, Bank Passbook are to be submitted. Cancer patients who are permanent residents of Kerala with an annual income of less than 1 lakh should apply. Web address: village.kerala.gov.in
