THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The gold chain worth Rs 3.5 lakh found in a toilet at Thampanoor railway station has attracted a flood of claimants. After the news broke through Kerala Kaumudi, around 100 people approached the police on Monday alone claiming the chain. However, no one could tell the exact specifics of the chain.
Sub Inspector C. Jayan said that more than a hundred people contacted the station by phone yesterday alone, and many came with the Kerala Kaumudi newspaper. The calls are coming from different parts of Kerala. May phone conversations briefly gave the idea "The chain is mine, I will come and tell you the specifics in person." Some people even sent the chain photo via WhatsApp to claim it but were uncertain when asked about the weight of the chain, the special features of the locket, etc. When the chain was found, it was ownerless. Now, the railway police are struggling to find the real owner from so many claimants.
The police filed a press release because no one came to claim the chain despite waiting for months. The police are surprised that the owner has not yet filed a complaint despite losing such a valuable chain. The police believe that the owners may have either not noticed the chain being lost or are not sure where it was lost. Thampanoor Railway Police is waiting for that lucky lady who will tell the correct specifics.
We are getting frequent phone calls, but the real owner has not called yet."
