KOCHI: Governor’s legal advisor Adv. S Gopakumaran Nair has informed him not to take a sudden decision on giving permission to Saji Cherian’s swearing-in ceremony.

Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, who returned to Thiruvananthapuram yesterday, clarified that the details of the case regarding Saji Cherian's speech will be examined. With this, the possibility of the swearing-in ceremony to be held tomorrow is very unlikely.

According to the legal advice, there is no urgent situation for him to take oath and the governor can decide regarding this when he is convinced that the court has completely acquitted Saji Cherian of the charges.

Constitution must be protected

“Watched video clip of the controversial speech. This was not an action befitting for a minister who had taken an oath of allegiance to the Constitution. As for the Governor, under Article 159 of the Constitution, he has an obligation to protect the Constitution to the best of his ability. Therefore, the Governor can take the stance that Saji Cherian can be reinstated only after he is convinced that the court has completely acquitted him of the charges against him. Let the people know that the Governor is protecting the Constitution.”, Khan said.
