Saudi riyal and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash; beggar's bag shocks; found dead on shop verandah

ALAPPUZHA: Rs 4,52,207 was recovered from the bags of a beggar who was found dead on a shop verandah after being hit by a scooter. The man, who was begging in and around Charummoodu, met with an accident on Monday evening. After being hit by a scooter, locals rushed him to a nearby hospital. The address he gave to the hospital is Anil Kishore, Thaiparambil, Kayamkulam.

The doctor recommended specialist treatment for his head injury, but he walked out of the hospital by nightfall. He was found dead on a shop verandah in the town on Tuesday morning. The Nooranad police arrived and shifted his body to Alappuzha Medical College. Police found plastic tins and purses containing banknotes when they brought the bags in his possession to the station and checked them. The police then brought Philip Oommen, a panchayat member of Charummoodu, to the station. SI Rajendran, ASI Radhakrishnanachari, CPO Manilal, Panchayat member and public activist Aravindakshan, counted the notes and found that there were four and a half lakh rupees.

There were 12 notes of 2000 and Saudi riyals in the bag. The notes were kept in five plastic tins and sealed with cellophane. Nooranad CI S. Sreekumar said that none of his relatives have arrived yet and the money will be presented in court.
