PATHANAMTHITTA: A patient has complained of a lapse in stitching the wounds at the Ranni Taluk Hospital. Sunil Abraham of Blockpadyi in Ranni has complained that ants were found in the area where the wounds were stitched. Sunil said that the wounds had to be reopened and stitched due to medical negligence. The family has decided to file a complaint with the health minister.
Sunil fell and injured his forehead on Sunday evening after his blood pressure dropped. He sought treatment at the Ranni Taluk Hospital around 7 pm. There were five stitches on the wounds. He was sent to the Pathanamthitta General Hospital for a CT scan. However, Sunil said that he had unbearable pain in the area where the wound was stitched. Sunil and others were shocked when they got the scanning report.
The scan showed two ants on the wounds stitched. Sunil said soon after removing the first stitches from Ranni Taluk Hospital, the doctors in Pathanamthitta removed the ants and stitched the wounds again. The two stitches on his forehead were done in a gap of three and a half hours.
The doctors at Pathanamthitta General Hospital have noted in the medical record that there was a foreign object in the stitched area. Sunil and his family said that the ants were found due to a lapse in cleaning the wound by the employees at Ranni Taluk Hospital. The patient met the hospital RMO and expressed his concerns but did not file a written complaint. However, the Ranni Taluk Hospital Superintendent said the incident will be investigated.
