MALAPPURAM: A seven-year-old girl who was brought to the hospital after suffering from food poisoning in Kuttipuram, collapsed and died. Lasna, daughter of Hakeem of Edachalam Karimpanakkal, died at a private hospital in Pookkattiri at around 3 pm yesterday. Along with Lasna, her mother Shahala, sister Minsa, Hakeem's parents and sister were also admitted in the same hospital for treatment after they complained of diarrhea and vomiting.

Pregnant Shahala and Minsa were given drip as they were feeling very tired. The others were also given treatment. In the meantime, Lasna collapsed and died. The others were later shifted to a private hospital in Kottakkal. It is suspected that the cause of the child's death was food poisoning. Health department officials said the family ate food made at home and that they had taken samples of it and sent for testing. They had eaten food that was kept in the fridge. The cause of death will be clear only after the child's postmortem report is received.
