Shifting of rocks in Vizhinjam port: ‘Problems resolved’, says Minister Ahmed Devarkovil

VIZHINJAM: Minister Ahamed Devarkovil said that the issues regarding the lorries delivering rocks for port construction have been resolved. Construction is going on day and night to make up for the days lost due to the protests. The pulimuttu (groyne) construction of 2055 meters has been partially completed. A 400m berth will be completed first so that the first ship can reach the port in September. Rocks required to complete the break water have already been collected. 4 cranes required for cargo movement will arrive in May. The electric sub-station will be inaugurated in late February and the gate complex in March as part of the first 100-day program of the government's second anniversary.

Construction of new load operating point has started to speed up Pulimuttu construction. The minister also said that the work of ASAP will be initiated to technically enable the local people for employment opportunities at the port. Ports Secretary Biju, Whistle MD Gopalakrishnan, Adani Vizhinjam International Port Ltd CEO Rajesh Jha, Operations Manager Sushil Nair, Minister's PS PT Joy and Additional PS CP Anwar were present in the meeting to review the progress.
