Skirt catches fire while lighting candle, girl succumbs to burns

KOLLAM: A girl who was under treatment for burns has died. The 17-year-old has been identified as Miya, daughter of late Anil and Leena of Kunnathur. She sustained burns on April 14.

Her skirt caught fire when she lighted the candle after power went off. It is believed that the girl may have worn the skirt kept after wiping thinner. This may have caused the skirt to catch fire. She died while undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

Only Miya was at home when the incident happened. Her mother Leena, an employee of Mainagapally railway gate, was on duty at the time of the incident.
