NEW DELHI: BJP leader and NDA candidate in Alappuzha, Sobha Surendran, was summoned to Delhi by the national leadership. She has been instructed to reach Delhi tomorrow.
It is reported that the central leadership is considering giving a higher position to Sobha Surendran at the organizational level. Everyone is eager to see if Sobha Surendran will be given the post of state president as the tenure of current BJP state president K Surendran is over.
Sobha Surendran performed well in the Lok Sabha elections. Sobha's candidature has increased the vote share sharply in all contested constituencies. BJP's vote share went up from 17.24 percent to 28.3 percent this time in Alappuzha parliamentary constituency. Shobha secured 2,99,648 votes in Alappuzha.
In the last LS polls, Dr KS Radhakrishnan raised the number of BJP votes to over one lakh in Alappuzha, where the party usually gets less than fifty thousand votes. Sobha has garnered even greater progress. SNDP votes and women's votes are considered to have been the candidate. The progress made by NDA in Alappuzha constituency is seen as big as UDF's victory. Congress's KC Venugopal won by securing 4,04,560 votes. CPM's AM Arif, who came second, got 3,41,047 votes.
