PATHANAMTHITTA: A student appearing for the SSLC examination was caught carrying a liquor bottle and cash at an exam center in Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta. The incident occurred on Wednesday, the final day of the exams. Reports indicate that the liquor was intended for post-exam celebrations. During an inspection of students’ bags, authorities discovered Rs 10,000 in cash in another student’s possession. Further investigation revealed that the student had stolen and sold his grandmother’s ring to acquire the money.
Teachers identified four students linked to the incident and provided them with counseling. Additionally, one student was found intoxicated upon arrival for the exam, prompting a thorough search that led to the discovery of liquor and cash. The students later admitted to bringing these items for post-exam celebrations.
A similar case was reported in February at a school in Kasaragod, where liquor and cannabis were brought for a “send-off party.” A 34-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with that incident. The latest case has raised further concerns over the rising trend of substance abuse among students in Kerala.
