KOZHIKODE: Eight people have been taken into custody after ten thousands flocked to a shoe shop at Mananchira in Kozhikode, following the offer to buy shoes for one rupee note on the opening day. The police have taken eight employees, including the owner of Trends Factory, into custody for inviting people without following security arrangements.

Police said that about 20,000 people thronged to the shop. The largest number of people came from Mangalore and Thrissur. The people who came were mostly Gen Z children.

The shop owner had advertised on social media that on the opening day, the first person to arrive with a one-rupee note would be given shoes. Seeing the advertisement, tens of thousands of Gen Z children gathered in front of the shop from 3 am. When the shop opened in the morning, the Gen Z group tried to rush inside, creating a huge crowd.

After realizing that the situation was getting out of their control, the shop owner himself informed the police. When the crowd got out of control despite the arrival of the police, the officers resorted to lathi-charge. It is reported that more than one was injured in the lathi-charge. The police also gave strict instructions not to open the shop again without permission.
