THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thousands of people flocked to Velikakkam House at Law College Junction in Thiruvananthapuram early Tuesday morning to pay their last respects to late former chief minister V S Achuthanandan. Many including ordinary people, party leaders and activists paid their last respects. The body has been taken to the Durbar Hall in the Secretariat and will be kept there till 2 pm for the people to pay their tributes to the departed soul.
Traffic restrictions have been imposed in Thiruvananthapuram city as part of the public homage. The restrictions are from 7 am. The police have informed that vehicular traffic will not be allowed towards the Secretariat.
People coming to pay tributes to VS should get down at Pulimoodu, Housing Board Junction and Martyrs Column and then go to the Durbar Hall. People coming in small vehicles should park their vehicles at the University Campus, Vellayambalam Water Authority Parking Ground, Jimmy George Stadium Ground, Tagore Theatre Ground, and Thycaud PTC Ground. Large vehicles should be parked at Attukal Temple Ground, Salvation Army Ground in Kowdiar, and Poojappura Ground. Vehicles should not be parked at other places. Parking of vehicles will also not be allowed in places where the mourning procession passes. The police said vehicles will be diverted if witnessed a traffic congestion.
