KAYAMKULAM/KUTTANAD: Including a fifth-grade student and a middle-aged man who fell into a pond near their house, and a middle-aged man who was swept away by the Pamba river, three people died in Alappuzha district.
Abhijith (10), the only son of Kayamkulam native Pradeep and Sujatha, was found dead in a water body near their house. The incident took place around 3 pm yesterday. The police arrived after the family informed the Kanakakkunnu police that the child was missing. They found the child's shoes near the water body while searching. They then went into the water body and retrieved the child and took him to the Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital, but he could not be saved. He is a fifth-grade student of Pallana Kumaranasan School. The initial conclusion is that he died accidentally. The body will be handed over to his relatives after the postmortem.
Appukuttan (52), who had gone for a bath in the Kavalam Pamba river, drowned. The incident took place around 7.30 am yesterday. The locals tried to save him but were unsuccessful. Later, the fire brigade from Alappuzha reached the spot, searched the area and found the body.
Hamsakutty (62), who worked at the Puthankandam Fish Market in Kayamkulam, was found dead in a puddle of water near a bridge. Wife: Halima. Children: Noushad and Noufal. Daughter-in-law: Ashina.
It will be clear whether these deaths are related to the monsoon disaster only after the tehsildars' report is received.
