Two students killed after tipper lorry loses control, hits car and bike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two people were killed after a Taurus lorry carrying rocks overturned on top of a car and a bike. The dead is Adithyan (22) of Vembayam and Julie Ignatius (20) of S J Nivas of Kattakada Kottenkuzhy Thozhukkalkonam. Adithyan was riding the bike and the woman was pillion riding him. Julie, a second-year undergraduate student and a national kabaddi player was staying at a hostel in Pirappancode. People in the car have been rescued and shifted to the hospital.

The accident happened at around 1 pm today at Kunnathunada near Pirappancode on the Pirappancode-Venjaramoodu ring road. The Taurus lorry, which was speeding and carrying rocks, hit a wall and overturned. The car and the bike were completely destroyed. The vehicles involved in the accident were coming from Venjaramoodu. The lorry driver fled immediately after the accident.

The fire brigade, police and locals cut opened the car and took the passengers out and shifted them to the hospital. The locals said the accident happened after the lorry’s tyre burst. The accident occurred at a place with steep climbs and sharp bends. The locals said vehicles carrying full loads without knowing the location often have a narrow escape without meeting an accident.
