THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor R.V. Arlekar has sought an explanation from Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal regarding the controversy and conflict surrounding the use of a Bharat Mata image at an event held in the Senate Hall in which the Governor had participated. The Governor instructed that a reply be submitted detailing what transpired during the emergency memorial program organised by the Sree Padmanabha Seva Samiti, including a written explanation from the Registrar.
The Vice-Chancellor directed Registrar Dr. K.S. Anilkumar to provide a detailed explanation, including the complaint lodged with the DGP alleging unauthorised use of the hall, despite prior approval. The explanation is to be submitted by noon today.
The VC also instructed the Registrar to submit the reason for cancelling the hall allotment and a copy of the cancellation order. It is reported that the action was taken without the Vice-Chancellor’s approval and that the complaint to the DGP was made under pressure from Syndicate members.
Meanwhile, the organisers, Sree Padmanabha Seva Samiti, have submitted a complaint to the Vice-Chancellor against the Registrar. The complaint alleges that:
The event organisers received an email cancelling the hall allotment only 14 minutes after the Governor had arrived at the venue. The complaint demands that the Registrar be suspended, and the organisers have also filed a police complaint.
