Vadakkanchery Accident: More charges to be imposed against driver, MVD to intensify state wide checking

PALAKKAD: More charges are likely to be imposed against driver Jomon, arrested in the Vadakkanchery accident. A case of culpable homicide has been registered against him. He will be questioned in detail today.

The investigation is by a team led by Alathur DySP. Things like whether Jomon was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident will be examined. Steps including cancellation of his license and fitness of the bus will be taken by the motor vehicle department today.

In the wake of the accident, transport commissioner has directed to tighten checking of vehicles across the state from today. The directions given are that all vehicles including buses will be checked.


Meantime, two people who died in the accident will be laid to rest today. Elna Jose, native of Ernakulam, will be laid to rest at Kanniattunirappu Orthodox Syrian Church at 2 pm and cremation of Anoop, native of Veliyam in Kollam will be at the premises of his house at 2 pm. The funeral of Elna was postponed to today following the delay in the arrival of her brother from abroad.


Nine including five students died in the accident that happened near Palakkad Vadakkanchery Anjumoorthy Mangalam Kollathara Bus stop at 12.30 am Thursday morning. The bus carrying children of Mar Baselious Vidya Niketan School in Mulanthuruthy, Ernakulam hit behind a KSRTC bus going to Coimbatore from Kottarakkara.
