THRISSUR: Wild tusker Kabali ventured into human habitat on Saturday by obstructing the passage of an ambulance ferrying a critically ill patient to hospital. The tusker brought down a palm tree and placed it on the road to hinder the travel. The officials later had a tough time cutting the tree in half and bursting crackers to ward off Kabali back to the jungle.

The incident took place near Sholayar penstock on Saturday. When the officials arrived, Kabali was busy savouring the palms from the tree. This wild tusker is known for creating traffic snarls on the Athirappilly-Malakkappara interstate highway. The same tusker created chaos on the road twice during July.

Recently, Kabali tried to ram the forest department's jeep and there were also reports of attacks on other vehicles. The timely decisions from drivers have hitherto saved many lives and have averted major accidents.

Kabali, a local nuisance, was released into the jungle by the forest department officials a few months ago. However, the pachyderm found its way back to the human habitat in Malakappara again.
