KOCHI: A youth, who jumped from the metro track to the road, has died. The youth has been identified as Nisar (32) of Tirurangadi in Malappuram. The incident happened at 2 pm today at Vadakkekotta Metro station.
Nisar, who took a ticket from Vadakkekotta Metro station, after waiting for a while at the stop for trains going to Aluva, jumped onto the track. Seeing this, the staff tried to stop him, but could not. The staff immediately turned off the power line passing through the track. Nisar, who ran along the track, approached pillar number 1013 and threatened to commit suicide.
At this time, the fire force and police reached the spot. Metro staff and police tried to stop him, but to no avail. The fire force had also spread a net to save him if he jumped. However, he held onto the handrail to avoid falling into the net and then jumped to another place.
Spectators said that Nisar first fell on the road, hitting his hand and then his head on the road. He was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital and then to the Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital, but his life could not be saved. It is also not clear why he had come to Ernakulam.
