THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary M V Govindan came to the fore against the charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Karuvannur case. Govindan said the ED is carrying out a deliberate political conspiracy. The ED has come forward trying to stain the party’s image. He added that if they think that the CPM can be implicated, the people will recognize it. Govindan clarified that the case will be fought politically and legally.
The ED has filed the second phase of the chargesheet in the Ernakulam Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Special Court in the Karuvannur bank fraud case. The CPM and three former secretaries of the party in Thrissur district have been arraigned in the case. Senior leaders M M Varghese, A C Moideen and K Radhakrishnan MP have been named as accused. There are 27 new accused in the final chargesheet filed in the court. With this, a total of 83 accused have been named in the Karuvannur bank fraud case. A fraud of Rs 180 crore had taken place in Karuvannur. Of this, Rs 128 crore was confiscated by the ED.
Meantime, A C Moideen said that a fraud had taken place in Karuvannur, but the party has no role in it. Moideen clarified that the leaders were arraigned with the parliamentary elections in mind. He clarified that the charge sheet is politically motivated and the party will face legal action.
