MALAPPURAM: Amidst ambiguity on whether to contest in the unfavourable terrain of Nilambur, BJP state general secretary M.T. Ramesh met with Malappuram DCC general secretary Adv. Beena Joseph on Wednesday. Rumours say that BJP is covertly making moves to rope in prominent turncoats and personalities to contest the elections as independent candidates with BJP support.

There are also rumours of the BJP making efforts to field Beena as an independent candidate in Nilambur. However, BJP leaders denied this news.

Beena while responding to the news said that Ramesh visited her office to talk about a legal case. She later admitted to having talks with BJP leadership about contesting in the elections. Beena said that she will actively campaign for the congress candidate in the coming days. M T Ramesh expressed bewilderment over the media queries and said that a DCC president becoming a BJP candidate is nearly impossible.

Later, Beena Joseph met with Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan. She arrived in Nilambur after Satheesan summoned her. The opposition leader asked her to immediately join the UDF campaigning in Nilambur.

Beena Joseph is a councillor of Manjeri Municipality. She was the vice-chairperson of Manjeri Municipality for one and a half years. She is a native of Edakkara Manimooly in the Nilambur constituency.
