Aditya L1 captures first ever full disk image of Sun

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India's Aditya L1 spacecraft has captured from space the first-ever full disk image of the Sun. This is the first full-circle image of the Sun at wavelengths between 200 and 400 nanometers.

The images were captured by the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) on board the probe. Aditya L1 is India's first mission to study the Sun.
ISRO said the image shows details of the sun's photosphere and chromosphere. SUIT is used to capture ultraviolet images of the photosphere and chromosphere. This is to study the changes in the emitted light energy. Aditya L1 carries seven payloads including SUIT. The probe's Solar Wind Ion Composition Spectrometer (SWICS) and Aditya Solar Wind Particle Experiment (ASPEX) started operating on December 6, and the High Energy L1 Orbiting X-ray Spectrometer, which captures high-energy X-ray images of solar flares, started operating in November. Aditya L1 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota on September 2.
