'No compensation'; Air India's shocking decision shatters Nambi Rajesh's family

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite the lightning protest from Air India staff denying a last meeting of Nambi Rajesh with his wife, the airline on Monday decided not to pay compensation to Rajesh's bereaved family. Air India Express officials informed the family about refunding the ticket amount on time but said the events leading to the death were beyond the purview of the company.

Air India’s decision came through a mail which they sent as a response to Nambi Rajesh’s family, as the family had earlier demanded compensation from the airlines.

Explanation: We understand the loss your family suffered due to the cancellation of Air India services on the 8th and 9th of May. The flights had to be cancelled due to the strike by the cabin crew. Air India promised to refund but you decided to schedule the trip for the next day. Unfortunately, this flight was also cancelled. We tried to arrange your travel through other flights but all efforts were futile. Air India started the refund process on the day the flight was cancelled. A refund was granted within 30 days.

Rajesh collapsed at work in Muscat on May 7. Amrita and her mother Chitra had booked tickets on Air India Express for the morning of the 8th to meet her husband, but they learned about the strike upon reaching the airport. On the 13th, the news of Rajesh's death reached Amrita.

The decision from Air India shattered Rajesh's family as they are now clueless about what to do next.
