Man kills son-in-law in front of daughter over inter-caste marriage

PATNA: A 25-year-old youth was shot dead in front of his wife by his father-in-law. Rahul Kumar, a second-year nursing student of Darbhanga Medical College Hospital, was killed by his father-in-law Prem Shankar Jha. The incident happened last evening in the hospital premises. The youth married Tannu Priya, a first-year nursing student, four months ago. It is also reported that Priya's parents had opposed the relationship as Rahul was from a different caste.

Prem Shankar, who committed the murder, was beaten by Rahul's friends. The seriously injured accused was admitted to the hospital. The police said that he will be shifted to a hospital in Patna for further treatment. Although the two were married, Rahul and Tannu stayed on different floors in the same hostel building. Priya told police that she saw a man wearing a hoodie approach Rahul and then realized that it was her father.

My father shot him in the chest in front of my eyes. She said that she had suspected that her father and brothers would harm Rahul for marrying me. She said that they had also sought legal help to avoid issues. Meanwhile, students protested for admitting Prem Shankar at Darbhanga Medical College for treatment. When the situation worsened, Darbhanga District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Jagannath Reddy reached the hospital and assessed the situation.
