Alappuzha to have complete makeover, another mega project apart from bypass; will be completed within months

alappuzha

ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha bypass, which was opened to the public three years ago, had changed the face of the district. Now Alappuzha is getting ready to have a facelift through yet another project. The construction work of the new bypass parallel to the existing bypass is progressing rapidly. 21 girders have been installed as part of this.

Girder installation has been completed near Kommadi and near the Alappuzha beach. The work of installing girders near Vijaya Park is in progress. The increase in heat and the fact that the migrant workers engaged in construction went to their respective states en masse have reduced the speed of the construction work. However, efforts are being made to complete the work within a few months.

The new bypass has a total of 350 girders. Girder installation is a time-consuming step as it is a difficult job. Construction of pillars is progressing on the Kalarcode side and Malikamukku side. The construction work in this area got delayed due to the delay in getting permission from the Railways to carry out the construction over the railway line in this area.

The next step after the installation of the girders is the construction of roof slabs. The bypass flyover currently has two lanes of 12 meters width. It will have a total of five lanes with the completion of three more lanes of 14 meters width parallelly. The length of the bypass is 6.8 km.
