TEL AVIV: For the time being, the war in the Middle East involving Iran and Israel reached a truce on Tuesday. Both countries accepted the ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump. India welcomed the decision and asked the issue to be resolved through dialogue. India also offered all assistance in helping bring peace to the region.
The uncertainty was compounded by the fact that both countries attacked each other even after Trump announced a ceasefire.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that Iran had fired 14 missiles and vowed to retaliate. This was followed by an attack on a radar system in Tehran.
While travelling to attend the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, US President Trump demanded that Israel call back their fighter jets and ensure peace in the region. Iran initially agreed to a ceasefire after launching an attack on Israel. Four people were killed in the attack. Media reports indicate that nine people were killed and 33 injured in Iran in Israel's retaliation.
Iranian media reported that an Israeli strike in northern Iran killed a nuclear scientist. The victim was Mohammad Reza Seddiqi Saber,. Saber was also a senior officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Days earlier, Seddiqi's son was killed in an Israeli strike. In total, 14 nuclear scientists were killed.
1. The ceasefire was reached after dramatic events. Iran launched a missile attack on an American air base in Qatar at 10 pm on Monday in retaliation for the US airstrikes that destroyed Iran's underground nuclear facility.
2. The six missiles were fired after a warning. Therefore, the US had taken precautions to avoid casualties. It would have been embarrassing for Trump if American soldiers had been killed.
2. Trump took the position that he would not retaliate for this. Later, Qatar urged a ceasefire through Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Iran, with the reputation of retaliating against the most powerful country in the world, complied.
3. At the same time, Trump directly contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and requested a ceasefire. Israel agreed, in the context of the United States achieving its goal of destroying Iran's nuclear capabilities. Trump then announced that the ceasefire was in effect.
