Child marriage in Idukki again; 26-year-old year marries 17-year-old, girl is seven months pregnant

MUNNAR: Another child marriage has been reported from Idukki. A 26-year-old youth has married a 17-year-old girl in Munnar. The girl is seven months pregnant. The Devikulam police registered a case against the youth under POCSO. A case has been registered against the girl's mother and relatives under various sections.

The marriage took place in July 2022. A case has been registered against the youth, a temporary worker of Grahams Land Division in Kannan Devan Company, Chokanad Estate. Meantime, it is believed that the marriage was performed after making them belief that the girl was a major.

The police knew the incident last month after the girl became pregnant. They produced the girl before the chairman of the child welfare committee and later sent her with her mother. In an investigation conducted after that, found the girl as a minor.

A similar incident where a 15-year-old girl marrying a 47-year-old man was reported on January 30.
