NEW DELHI: The Travancore Devaswom Board has opposed in the Supreme Court the demand of Makayiram Nal Raghava Varma Raja of Pandalam Palace to make him the main party in the Sabarimala Thiruvabharanam case. A bench headed by Justice Krishnamurari allowed the board to file a written objection and will hear the petition again after three weeks.
Raghava Varma Raja wants the supreme court to make him the main petitioner as the main petitioner Revathi Nal Rama Varma Raja, has passed away.
The Pandalam Palace is questioning the devaprasnam held at Sabarimala in June 2006. The devaprasnam ruling that Thiruvabharanam should be handed over to the Devaswom Board is being challenged. The devaprasnam was performed without the consent of the Pandalam palace. The petition demanded that the devaprasnam should be held again and that a special advisory committee should be formed for the administration of Sabarimala. Thiruvabharanam is currently overseen by the palace management committee. The Supreme Court had earlier inquired whether there was a security issue in Thiruvabharanam's continued possession by the royal family. Justice CN Ramachandran Nair was appointed to account for the Thiruvabharanam.
