JEDDAH: 561 Indians including Malayalees have arrived in Jeddah from Sudan with the help of the Indian Army. 278 people were brought to Jeddah in a naval ship and 283 in two air force planes. They will be temporarily accommodated in a school under the embassy and will be brought home through various chartered services from today.

Operation Kaveri project is being implemented with the help of Saudi Arabia. Almost 3000 Indians are in Sudan. Union Minister V Muraleedharan is monitoring the rescue operation of the Indians. Saudi Arabia is seeking a way to rescue foreigners after the announcement of 72-hour ceasefire. A ceasefire had been announced earlier, but the clashes were severe. Extortion against those who go out is also rampant. From Khartoum International Airport in Sudan, where there is heavy conflict, have to travel 800 km to reach the port of Sudan. This is creating a big crisis.
