Poured toilet cleaner in daughter's mouth for marrying person against family's will, dumped her in highway; father arrested

BAREILLY: The police have arrested a man for attempting to murder his daughter for marrying a person without the family's approval. The incident took place in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh the other day. The woman was found naked in the bushes on the Lucknow-Delhi highway on Wednesday. The accused had poured toilet cleaner on her face in order to disfigure her and conceal her identity. Police have also arrested the woman's brother-in-law in the incident.

The arrested persons are Tota Ram Singh (father) and Dinesh (brother-in-law). Additional SP Rajkumar Agarwal said that the police have not yet recorded the woman's statement as she is in critical condition. The woman had been in love with her neighbour named Ajay Kumar for a long time. However, her family opposed this relationship. Following this, the two got married secretly. When she informed her father about her marriage, he took her home saying that he would help her marry Ajay Kumar. Tota Ram then stopped the bike on the highway and strangled his daughter. He then poured the toilet cleaner on her face and mouth before dumping her in the bushes. The accused committed the crime due to 'social humiliation' caused by the daughter's marriage to Ajay Kumar.

It was some passers-by who spotted the woman near the highway. They soon rushed her to a hospital. When the police contacted Tota Ram, he told them that his daughter had already gotten married and was staying with her husband. When they showed him the woman's photo, he responded that it was not his daughter. However, the police soon found a CCTV footage which showed the woman having food at a restaurant along with Tota Ram and Dinesh. Following this, the police arrested the accused.
