NEW DELHI: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat broke down in tears in front of the media after a scuffle broke down between the protesters and the Delhi Police on Wednesday night. “Did we win medals to see this day?” asked Phogat emotionally.
The wrestlers alleged that the policemen were drunk when they attacked them. They also added that the officials pushed and shoved them. “We are not criminals to be treated in this manner. If you want to kill us, kill us. Male police officers grabbed me and pushed me. Why weren’t there any women police personnel?” asked Phogat.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia also requested the government to take back all the medals he received. The president of the Delhi Women's Commission has taken the statements of the wrestlers in the incident. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear the complaint of the women wrestlers today stating that the Delhi Police is not taking action in the sexual abuse complaint against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh.
The wrestlers started protest at Jantar Mantar on April 23, demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan and his removal from the post of Wrestling Federation of India chief.
