BEIJING: A man was detained in China for creating fake news of a train crash through artificial intelligence. This is China’s first arrest for misusing ChatGPT technology.
Hong was arrested by police in Gangsu province of China. Hong with the assistance from ChatGPT created fake news of a train accident and published it on a famous blog website Baijiahao. More than 15,000 people clicked on the news while many shared the same on other platforms. After this spread, the police got alerted and went in search of the culprit.
The cybersecurity officers in Kongtong County found out the roots of the fraud committed. China is wary about the expansion of artificial intelligence and closely monitors the internet for critical social media posts against the ruling communist government.
China’s top internet regulator has long voiced concern that unchecked development and use of deep synthesis technology could lead to its use in criminal activities such as online scams or defamation.
