KOCHI: The High Court has issued a stay on the government order prohibiting vacation classes in all schools, including CBSE and ICSE schools in the state. The High Court has clarified that vacation classes can go ahead. The court also suggested that facilities should be arranged to resist the heat. The court made the decision after observing that vacation classes are for the good of the students. The court also stated that vacation classes cannot be stopped without proper reasons.

The Director of General Education had earlier issued a circular stating that the government order of 2017 banning summer vacation classes to be strictly followed. The District Education Officers were directed to ensure that the order is implemented and take action against schools that conduct classes in violation of the directive. According to the order of the General Education Department, children should not be forced to study and attend such camps during the summer vacation. It pointed out that forcing children to sit in classes this way will cause mental problems in them and also lead to serious health problems due to the summer heat.
