NEW DELHI: Central government to look into allegations that WhatsApp is secretly using devices' microphones without users' knowledge. Foad Dabiri, an engineer on Twitter, came up with this allegation. Foad Dabiri said WhatsApp used the microphone on his phone while he was sleeping.
He tweeted about it, following which many others reported having similar experiences. Union Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted after Twitter chief Elon Musk tweeted that WhatsApp should not be trusted.
He noted that this is an invasion of privacy and the incident will be investigated immediately. Rajeev Chandrasekhar tweeted that the new Digital Personal Data Protection Bill is being prepared and action will be taken if there is any violation.
