THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health University will provide an opportunity to recruit half a lakh nurses from Kerala to Britain. Britain was requested to help with recruitment. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal told Kerala Kaumudi that recruitment will be provided through the placement cell of the university.
There are jobs available across the UK including in London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. The recruitment will be done for free.
The Health Education England team signed a contract with the public sector undertaking Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Limited (ODEPEC), for the recruitment of nurses. They promised thirty thousand jobs. More than 600 nurses have been employed in Britain through ODEPEC in three years. Earlier this month, 150 people were selected in recruitment by NORCA in Kochi.
Nursing Colleges for SIMET
The State Institute of Medical Education and Technology (SIMET) under the Department of Health will sanction new nursing colleges in the government sector. SIMET had seven colleges earlier. Presently the colleges are in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Malampuzha and Kasaragod. SIMET is preparing to start new colleges.
