Six-year-old daughter hacked to death in Mavelikkara; father arrested

ALAPPUZHA: In a shocking incident, a six-year-old girl was hacked to death by her father. The incident happened around 7:30 pm today in Punnamood in Mavelikkara. The deceased is Punnamood native Nakshatra. Police have taken Nakshatra's father Sree Mahesh (38) into custody in the incident. Sree Mahesh killed the girl with an axe. He also attacked his mother. It is learnt that he is mentally ill.

When Sunanda, the mother of Sree Mahesh, came from the house next door after hearing the noise, she saw Nakshatra lying in a pool of blood on the couch. Sree Mahesh then followed and attacked Sunanda who ran out making noise. Sunanda sustained an injury on her hand. She was admitted to the district hospital. Sree Mahesh also threatened and attacked the neighbours. Nakshatra's mother committed suicide three years ago.
