Supreme Court to open today; stray dog ​​issue and Priya Varghese's appointment case to come up for consideration

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court will open today after a 41-day midsummer break. The bench chaired by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the petitions related to the Manipur conflict on the first day itself. The court is scheduled to hear the case on the 12th regarding the stray dog ​​problem in Kerala and the need for their euthanasia.

The legal battles following the NCP split in Maharashtra may reach the Supreme Court. The verdict of the five-judge constitution bench is also expected in the case seeking the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Important cases

The Delhi government has approached the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the Services Ordinance brought by the central government. The court will look into the allegation that the central government is passing laws through shortcuts by presenting them in the Lok Sabha as money bills. "The Kerala Story" movie controversy, Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji's arrest, Adani-Hindenburg issue, Bilkis Bano case, revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, election bond scheme etc. will be heard.

Arikomban issue, protection of Western Ghats, health condition of Abdul Nasser Madani, the appointment of Priya Varghese etc. will also be considered by the court.

Two new judges in the collegium

With the retirement of Justices KM Joseph and Ajay Rastogi, Justices BR Gavai and Suryakant became members of the Collegium. The other members are Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices SK Kaul and Sanjeev Khanna.

New roster from today

A scientific roster system will come into effect from today to allow judges to consider subject areas of expertise.
