THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Abu Dhabi Sakthi T K Ramakrishnan Award was awarded to film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan and in the other literary category Kerala Kaumudi deputy editor V S Rajesh received the award and former chief secretary K Jayakumar received the award in the poetry category and S Ajayakumar, former secretary of Lalitha Kala Academy in the novel category.
The 37th Abu Dhabi Sakthi Awards was organized under the auspices of Abu Dhabi Shakti Theaters, an organization of Malayalees working in Abu Dhabi. The awards were announced by the chairman of the awards committee, former M P P Karunakaran and convener M K Musamaster in a press conference. CPM State Secretary M V Govindan will distribute the awards at a function to be held in Ponnani in Malappuram district in the third week of August.
The Sakthi T K Ramakrishnan Award, instituted in the memory of former Culture Minister T K Ramakrishnan, who served as its Chairman since the formation of the Abu Dhabi Sakthi Awards Committee in 1987, carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a plaque. The Sakthi Erumeli Award was instituted in memory of Prof. Erumeli Parameswaran Pillai who was a famous educationist and writer. The award consists of Rs 25,000 and a plaque for each literary category.
Other awards were given to P N Gopikrishnan (Poetry) Manaseedevi (Novel) Prof. Vishwamangalam Sundaresan (Children's Literature) Emilmadhavi and John Fernandes (Drama) P V Shajikumar (Story) Dr. B Iqbal B.Sreekumar ((Scientific Literature),)Dr. Srikalamulassery (Other Literature) Sajay K V and P G Sadanandan (Criticism) were awarded.
