THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police commissioner has recommended the DGP to declare airspace above the revered Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple as a no-fly zone. If implemented, helicopters and aeroplanes will be banned from accessing this airspace. As of now, only drones are banned from flying over the temple area.
On the 28th of July, a private company's helicopter flew over the temple almost five times evoking a strong response from the temple board. The representative of the centre in the temple administrative committee, Kummanam Rajasekharan said the matter was of concern but not any trivial incident. Rajasekharan said the temple was placed in a high-security zone so the recurring such incidents are of concern nevertheless.
After Kummanam Rajasekharan’s response, the DCP in charge of the temple gave a detailed report of the incident to the city police commissioner. In the report, it highlighted the need to implement a no-fly zone over the area. The report will be forwarded to the central aviation department for finalizing works.
Earlier, Kummanam Rajasekharan even requested CM Pinarayi Vijayan to take necessary steps against those who have violated the security measures.
