THRISSUR: Thrissur Women's Cell CI P V Sindhu was meddled in work on Independence Day meanwhile somewhere not that far, her brothers were performing the final rites of her father. Sindhu was the commanding officer of the parade held yesterday at Thrissur's Thekkinkadu Maidan as part of the Independence Day celebrations. It was unprecedented for a woman commandant to lead the parade in the district’s independence day celebrations.

P.V. Sindhu was the first choice for parade commandant as the commissioner had no queries when her name popped up during the initial preparation stage. It was during the practicing session of the parade that Sindhu heard about her father Vasu’s demise. Concerns loomed among officials to appoint another officer to take charge of the commandant's duty.

City police commissioner Ankit Asokan was cooperative and decided to not burden Sindhu with the charge amidst bereavement. However, to the amazement of all, Sindhu solicited to take charge of the parade and assured about her presence on August 15th. Sindhu’s words sparkled in commitment as she was present at 7:30 am on Maidan while her father’s final rites were progressing.

Sindhu also accompanied Minister Rajan while inspecting the parade. After the parade, around 11.30 in the morning, she reached home in Thycattusserry and took part in the final rites. Sindhu has won the prestigious police medal from the president of India for her valiant service.
