NEW DELHI: After hoisting the national flag and delivering a speech at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proceeded directly to the special guests including the NREGS laborers who had come from Kerala.

Radha from Kollam Sooranad, Seema from Palakkad and Sunitha from Ernakulam Arakkapadi were the laborers who had arrived from Kerala.

First, he visited the NCC cadets who were seated inside the huge map of India dressed in pearl-white uniforms. He engaged in conversation with them while walking through the three rows of cadets. Then he moved on to the special guests in the adjacent area. They eagerly approached to converse and take selfies with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister was later escorted away from the area by security officials after completing these interactions.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended a customary welcome to the Prime Minister. An honour guard was formed by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police. Immediately following the Prime Minister's hoisting of the national flag, two Dhruv helicopters from the Air Force showered flowers upon the venue. Ceremonial gunfire resounded from indigenously manufactured 105-mm light field guns. Balloons in the colours of the national flag ascended into the sky.
