Six lakh people bought liquor from Bevco outlets on 'Uthradam', increase of Rs 41 cr in sales compared to 2022

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The trend of Malayalis setting new records in alcohol consumption for every celebration was seen in this year's Onam numbers as well. Six lakh people came to buy liquor at Beverages Corporation's liquor outlets on Uthradam day. Bevco's turnover in Thiruvananthapuram has increased by Rs 4.12 crore as compared to last year. Bevco saw an increase of Rs 41 crore in liquor sales in the eight days after Atham as compared to last year. During the last Onam, liquors sales touched Rs 700.06 crores. This time, the expected figures are around Rs 770 crores.

The Bevco outlet in Iringalakkuda recorded the highest sales on Uthradam day. Liquor worth 106.22 lakhs was sold here. Ashramam shop in Kollam district is in the second place after selling liquor worth Rs 101.03 lakhs. Three of the top 10 selling Bevco outlets are in Thrissur district. Chalakudy is at sixth position with sales of Rs 88.59 lakhs and Poklai at 9th position with sales of 82.28 lakhs. Bevco currently has 274 shops. It is estimated that an average of 2000 people visited each shop.

Bars and foreign liquor stores will be closed on Thursday as it is the 'Chathayam' day, and tomorrow, which is the first day of the month. Toddy shops will be open on September 1.
