KOZHIKODE: Government's bottled water Hilly Aqua has got record sales this past summer. There was sales of Rs 4.83 crore from February to May. Last year it was only 2.60 crores.
The plants are located in Thodupuzha and Aruvikkara. From February to May, 90 lakh litres of bottled water were sold. As the demand increased, the production in the plants was increased by 90 percent. Last year, 42,000 bottles of water were produced per day in one shift. This year, 92,000 bottles were delivered in three shifts.
Hilly Aqua is marketed by Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation (KIIDC), a public sector undertaking. Hilly Aqua had six distributors in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts. 40 more suppliers were found before the summer. The company generated Rs 8.75 crore revenue in the last financial year.

A litre of Hilly Aqua costs Rs 15 in shops. The price is Rs 10 at railway stations, ration shops, Neethi medical stores, Supplyco, Triveni and jail chapathi outlets.
