Cyclonic circulation in North East Bay of Bengal; Heavy rain and strong winds predicted in five districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely in five districts of the state in the next three hours. The India Meteorological Department said there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.

A cyclone circulation has formed in the North East Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department said that a low pressure is likely to strengthen over the northwest Bay of Bengal and central west Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. Due to this, there will be rain in the state for five days.

A yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Alappuzha districts today. A yellow alert is in place tomorrow in Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts and the next day in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts.

A Yellow alert is in effect in Ernakulam and Idukki districts on Wednesday and in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts on Thursday. A chance of isolated heavy rain is predicted.
