Forced to convert and have sex; Kashmir native Banglore techie arrested on love jihad charges

BENGALURU: An IT employee was arrested on a woman's complaint that she was made a victim of love jihad, forced to convert and abused. Mogil Ashraf Baig (32), a native of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and an employee of an IT company in Bangalore, was arrested by the Karnataka police. The arrest was made on the complaint of an employee of a private IT company in Bangalore itself.

Mogil has been close with the woman since 2018. The two were living together and decided to get married but Mogil forced the woman to convert to his religion, police said. According to the complaint, the woman was forced to have sex by promising marriage.

The incident came to light when the woman posted a note on the X platform revealing that she was abused and forced to convert. The woman said that her life was in danger. Bellandur police in Bengaluru filed a case on September 7. As the incident took place in a different location, the case was transferred to the Hebbagodi police station. Meanwhile, the accused had returned to Srinagar. Karnataka police reached Srinagar on Wednesday and arrested the accused. The suspect was produced in the court on Thursday and was remanded in police custody for two days.
