THE HAGUE: The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has asked Pakistan to review its conviction and sentencing of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav. The ICJ’s ruling has become a major relief for India as it has been fighting against the execution of Jadhav on charges of spying.

It is learnt that the court has asked Pakistan to provide effective review and reconsideration of Jadhav’s conviction and sentences. However, the court has also rejected some of the remedies suggested by India such as Jadhav’s release and annulment of the military court convicting him.

Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested by Pakistan Intelligence in 2016 on charges of spying following which he was sentenced to death by the Military court. India later approached the ICJ in 2017 stating that Pakistan violated the Vienna agreement by sentencing Jadhav without any sort of diplomatic guidance.
