Vanchiyoor police brutality: Departmental inquiry begins

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A departmental investigation has begun in the shameful incident that saw city police manhandling a young man who reported a roadside scuffle to the control room. Shanghumugham ACP Anurup has been given the task of investigation by the City Police Commissioner. The report should be submitted within two weeks. The incident took place near Kavaradi Junction in Vanchiyur on Monday night.

Sanish, a Kottiyam native and a nursing assistant at a private hospital in Eanchakkal, was beaten up by a policeman at the Vanchiyoor station. Commissioner C. Nagaraju suspended Senior Civil Police Officer Anish who was found guilty in the preliminary investigation based on the CCTV footage. A departmental inquiry was announced after this.

A case will be registered and further action will be taken after a departmental investigation. The commissioner asked for an inquiry at the special branch level as well.
