RTI: Five officials fined Rs 40,000 in total

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Right to Information Commission has imposed a penalty of Rs 40,000 on five officials who committed lapses on applications under the Right to Information Act. Action has been taken against the officers of various departments for the offenses of denying information, delaying, misrepresenting and charging extra fees. Right to Information Commissioner A Abdul Hakim also rdered the acquittal of one police officer and the refund of money to the two applicants.

Paravur Village Officer TS Bijulal needs to pay Rs 5000 as fine, Palakkad Dairy Development Deputy Director Office N Bindu Rs 1000, Payyannur Electrical Section N Rajeev Rs 25000, Attingal KSRTC RV Sindhu Rs 5000 and Nedumangad Block Panchayat Public Information Officer Umashankar has pay up Rs 4000.

The Commission suggested to return Rs 380 taken as search fee and marriage act fee by Kollam Chathannoor sub-registrar.
